With a 7 foot wingspan, the Philippine Eagle is the biggest eagle in the world. We have been looking forward to seeing this majestic creature for months. Interestingly, we learned that female Philippine Eagles are larger than male eagles. They say males are smaller so they can be more agile hunters in their forest home. We also learned that Philippine Eagles are lifetime monogamous: even if their partner dies, they will not find another mate. They only lay one egg at a time, and that only every 2 years. Unfortunately, to protect the Philippine Eagles from bird flu, their enclosures were far from the foot path. We could see them well in person but without a proper telephoto lens, the pictures didn’t turn out that great (the pictures behind chain link fence are of the Philippine Eagles, the up close shots are of other birds). There were many other interesting birds and LOTS of great trees and plants. Sanctuary is a fitting name name for this place.
