Boodle Fight

I think we’ve moved from guests to friends

This would be a great Balderdash card, but there’s no balderdash in this post; this was a beautiful gift we received. Boodle fight is a traditional Filipino feast, served on banana leaves and eaten with bare hands. Our hosts, who work at the resort but do not own it, prepared this feast for us on their own time and at their own expense. Some background: these beautiful people work 8hrs a day any day there are guests at the resort. No weekends off, no vacations. On Saturday, after working all day, they came back with their families, and taught us how to prepare one of their delicacies: squid! We joined them as they purchased the squid straight off the boat, minutes after it beached. Then they taught us how to remove the eyes, teeth, and ink before rinsing the squid in the sea and grilling it over charcoal. Some was saved for squid soup, which had a delicious ginger flavour. We were tremendously honoured and really felt welcomed as friends and family. And the food was delicious!
